DCIS Member Code of Conduct
The Delaware County Institute of Science (DCIS), being a non-profit organization with general members who can also act in a volunteer capacity, is requiring all members to abide by and conform to the following conduct standards:
Members shall act honestly and ethically while in the performance of their DCIS volunteer duties, whether physically inside or outside of the Institute.
Members shall treat all people with respect, dignity, and courtesy.
Members shall not harass, bully, physically restrain, assault, or in any way mistreat fellow DCIS members, visitors, elected officers or appointed staff.
Members shall obey all applicable local, state, and federal laws, including all laws and regulations that govern “conduct in a workplace,” while acting on behalf of DCIS.
All members are encouraged to report witnessed or suspected violations of this Code of Conduct, and cooperate with any subsequent internal investigations. Members can seek assistance from a DCIS officer if they choose to make such a report or to file a formal complaint.
Physical items of the collection (E.g., specimens, books, artifacts, documents, and photographs) may not be removed from the DCIS building without permission of the majority of DCIS officers, accompanied by a written record of the removal.
The informational content of the DCIS collections and resultant project work by volunteers and officers is the exclusive property of the DCIS. This extends to information and other materials worked on by DCIS volunteers including, but not limited to, digital imagery, manuscripts, databases, files, and spreadsheets. All such items, information, and data are considered property of the DCIS and may not be retained, copied, transferred, or distributed without the permission by the majority of the DCIS officers,
Adherence to This Policy: All DCIS members, volunteers, appointed staff, and elected officers are expected to comply with this policy. Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may be grounds for disciplinary actions by the DCIS board, including the disqualification of DCIS membership.
Compliance: All members are asked to always follow this DCIS Code of Conduct. All active DCIS volunteers and elected board members are required to sign a copy of the Code of Conduct upon the start of their service.
